Cape Sounio Sunset Tour
Some people say that the road from Faliro to Lavrion Port is maybe the most beautiful scenic route to the whole Europe. Some others use to compare the Athenian Riviera to the Cote D’ Azur.
Starting from the area of Faliro, heading to the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio and then to Lavrion, visitors will have the opportunity to pass by some of the best Athenian areas and a lot of famous beaches.
Our first stop will be in Palea Fokea, a small town outside Athens with sandy beaches and clean waters. Between Palea Fokea and Cape Sounion, we will pass by the area of Anavyssos and then a few miles later we will reach the Cape Sounion.
Cape Sounion is the southern edge of Attica. It is mostly known due to the Temple of Poseidon that is located on top of the Cape. It is considered as a sacred place and a sanctuary and it is interesting to point that the Temple started to build at 500 BC but it was never completed.
The Temple of Poseidon is a very popular tourist destination especially during the afternoon. It is the ideal place to enjoy a magnificent sunset and a panoramic view of the Saronic Gulf. Cape Sounion is the place that many writers, poets and philosophers got their inspiration such as Lord Byron that visited the site in 1897.
After enjoying a majestic sunset, we are heading to Lavrion. Lavrion is a very small town that in antiquity was of a great importance. Laurium, as it was formerly known, it was famous of its silver mines. It is widely considered as the main revenue resource of the Athenian state in Antiquity. Lavrion has also a small port of less importance than Pireus port.
At the end of the tour, we will have the opportunity to dine in a traditional Greek taverna in Microlimano area, near Pireus.
All day tours start at 9:00 AM and end at 9:30 PM.
